Switzerland
Trip Snippets:
Airfare: We bought our flights on a sale for $506 RT from SLC to Milan, Italy. It was a lot cheaper at the time to fly to northern Italy, and then drive up into Switzerland.
Transportation: We rented a car at the airport in Milan, Italy since it was cheaper. We used that to drive the entire country of Switzerland, through all the mountains, and all the incredible places you don’t get to see while taking the rail or flights. If you’re visiting Switzerland, you MUST rent a car or else you’ll miss out. And if you get a small car, gas lasts forever.
Hotels: We stayed at hotels which we booked with Chase points. We stayed in Grindelwald and Arosa. While Grindelwald is well-known, Arosa is not, and if you go there you’ll feel like you’re entering a fairy-tale. P.S. the drive to get to Arosa is the most scenic drive I’ve ever taken…and we’ve been quite a few places.
Food: The food in Switzerland is divine. Especially the chocolate. Pretty sure I bought like a pound of chocolate every time we stopped. All of the food is pretty normal, and nothing that will make you cringe (like the food we ate in China..). Every breakfast will include tons of meats, cheeses, crackers, breads, etc. If you’re a foodie, this is the trip for you.
Activities: While in Switzerland, we rode cable cars, went on hikes/walks, and soaked in the views of the mountains. We didn’t actually have to pay for a lot of activities here because it’s so scenic and most of it is just enjoying the beauty around you. But definitely pay for a cable car (I think ours in Grindelwald was like $10-15 usd per person). The views are unbeatable on top of the mountains.
